Our vision
At Pentland Field we aspire for our pupils to grow academically, socially and emotionally.
We aim for our learners to be well rounded and mature young adults, who know their own value and can contribute to the communities in which they live.
Our long term aims for pupils support this:
- Communicate thoughts and needs appropriately
- Making and maintaining relationships
- Learn living skills that promote independence
- Help pupils find interests that allow them to flourish
- Equip pupils to make a positive contribution, beyond themselves, to their communities
Our values and our rules
Our school values align with our school rules. Together, they provide a frame of reference for what it means to work, learn, and live well.
Our values and rules belong to everyone – we agree to do our best to live by them, to acknowledge moments when we may have got that wrong, and seek to put that right.
When all in our school community agree to live this way, we model clearly for one another, and most especially to our pupils, what it looks like to take responsibility for yourself, and for others.
Our values are:
-
Courage
To do the right thing, and to take good risks when learning. That is how we grow.
-
Encourage
This is how we give courage to other people. It's part of how we take responsibility and show care for others.
-
Hope
What keeps us going when things seem too hard for us to manage. Change is often possible, and powerful when it happens.
-
Belonging
How we feel safe enough to try new things, and help others do the same. when we know we belong, we are helped to know we have intrinsic value. When we belong, we are more able to discover the things we are good at, our passion, and our purpose.
-
Growth
The key to unlocking potential, for ourselves, and in those around us.
Our rules align with our values
Our rules have been deliberately chosen to be as simple, clear and relevant as possible. Equally, the rules have enough breadth and depth to provide relevance for a wide range of scenarios that pupils will be likely to encounter, both in school and in the world beyond.
The school rules deliberately focus on just one word, so they can be understood by everyone.
We have five core rules. everyone is taught about these, through phase assemblies and through clear modelling for each other. These are:
Help, Honest, Kind, Share, Listen
In addition, there are four other rules. These represent more complex themes, and are introduced and taught to pupils who have the capacity to understand them.
This means they can be introduced at any age, but that the level of understanding required to understand and follow them may not be understood by all pupils.
All staff also model these rules for our pupils. They are:
Gentle, Compromise, Strive, Forgive
Our school rules are selected for their relevance to our pupils, and for their flexibility across a range of situations.
They are important because they are key to progressing well through life’s journey. Our hope is that our values and our rules stay with our pupils long after they have left Pentland Field.
