Post 16 Curriculum

The curriculum in Post-16 ensures that study programmes are designed to contribute to the student’s preparation for adulthood.

All students continue to study English and Mathematics. In Ubuntu Pathway and Ikigai Pathway this is referred to as Functional Literacy and Functional Numeracy. Literacy, language and numeracy skills embedded into a curriculum that supports the broadening and deepening of skills in a practical way.

For more information on the Functional Literacy and Functional Numeracy curriculum contents, please refer to the curriculum policy.

Study programmes following Sisu Pathway will complete Functional Skills – English and Mathematics (Entry 1 – Level 2) appropriate to the learners ability. Within Functional Skills English, students are assessed on reading, writing and speaking, listening and communicating. Within Functional Skills Mathematics, students will take a calculator, and non-calculator exam covering number, measure and data.

All Study Programmes are informed by aspirations in relation to the four areas of Preparing for Adulthood (including Employability, Good Health, Friendships, Relationships and Community and Independent Living) students working between Entry 1 – Entry 3 will complete ASDAN – Realising Aspirations modules to support the Preparing for Adulthood Curriculum.

Students are encouraged to participate in the Duke of Edinburgh Award. For more information on DofE click here.
